Default Videos out of sync.

I've had this problem for a long time, but since God is merciful, most of anime and movies I watch are in .avi format, which binds video and audio together. Well, not anymore. Hate mp4.

First of all, every time I run .mkv or .mp4 movies my sound runs wayy off the video. At first, the difference is not that great, later you can hear sounds minutes ahead of the video. Picking a specific point restores the sync., although sound outruns video again in a matter of seconds.

I use MPC for .mp4 and MPC and Zoom Player for .mkv files. Media Player Classic comes from CCCP, which I also have.

One more thing I'd like you to take notice of - sound runs faster than video, so even if I synchronize them at some point, in a couple of minutes I will still hear events before actually seeing them.

Help?

If you are constantly loosing sync between audio and video it may be that your processor is having trouble keeping up. How old is your PC and do you have an sound card? mkv and mp4 are both usually used to hold HQ audio and video, the compression from HQ video codecs along with the containers themselves (and the decoder, CCCP's use of ffdshow is notably harder on your system then CoreAVC for H.264) all increase strain on your processor.

Try a clean boot and see if you still can notice the sound and video being out of sync. Also switch over to GOM Player

It has to do with the timing and such I believe. But sometimes it has do with things such as programs used, the computer itself, and a number other variables. Just check your computer stats and model. See what kind of programs you are using will help too and that should help you with half of the problem.

Pentium MMX processors and "higher" ( though not pentium pro ) have the multimedia extention ( mmx ) which allows to do hardware aiff decompressing, mixing and all the other things that 15 year's ago's audio hardware was able to do, so if his processor has a number after pentium, celeron, xeon or athlon in it s name, he doesn t need a sound card to play videos...

well it can t be helped if the file is corrupted. stretching the audio will make it sound crappier. you might be able to increase the frame rate without too many side effects, though.

Ok, gonna try some of your suggestions now. By the way, I'm using AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 1.66 GHz and 768 MB of RAM. Video card : Nvidia GeForce FX 5200

Good for them! Athlon user here.

Erm... then there's a virus hiding in my computer which corrupts every .mp4 and ..mkv file as soon as I get it. File corruption is not possible, though I'd like to know the way to increase frame rate of those vids.

Have you even tried updating your videocard drivers?

it sounds stupid I know but sometimes it just might work.

You don t need a virus to get file corruption. eg, a server sends 10 bytes on UDP, the client receives only 9, or in wrong order, or some bits(or bytes) swapped -> client gets corrupted data... that s why you always get MD5 or at least CRC32 checksums at all the downloads ...
another way would be having your computer crash while writing to the hard dist -> corresponding sector(s) corrupted as well as the file(s) on it.

...

You can increase the framerate by reencoding the video. Eventually you can increase it with the ffmpeg spliter(<- the program that starts everytime your windows classic mediaplayer loads a mkv)'s video options, too.

Not much probable. The first generation of geforce chips get their drivers updated very infrequently ( the forceware that gets releases every now and then is for geforce fx > 6000 ). If Windows Vista is used chances are high that the shipped driver already has full support for the GFFX5 features ( unless maybe nVidia got some OpenGL 3 stuff into the GFFX5 branch of their driver ).
Even if he only uses XP, with all service packs installed he should get recent 2D accelleration - and more isn t needed.

I personally just found GOM player a little while ago... when the audio comes unsynced you just push a little hotkey and it moves the audio backwards or forwards 0.1 seconds for you so you can match it up how you like. Very handy.

yes, ffmpeg's interface can also do that (obviously, since gom uses ffmeg).
however the video and audio can be shifted without a fixed offset - e.g. ayako's fansub of nagasarate airantou starts with the sound being about 5 seconds ahead and then the video "catches up" with the audio in the first 2 minutes of each episode. fixing things like that is quite troublesome (taking the audio stream from a raw or another fansub would be the easiest option)

Also, other problems, might be:
1) Due to the quality of many of the current anime, which are in HD quality with most fansubbers subbing in h264 format, it requires a lot more CPU power from your computer, so either cut down on the number of programs running, or perhaps invest in a new computer (<-- need to do that soon for myself)

2) Your video card can't keep up, happened to me once.
