Default Personal problem...

My computer caught a nasty virus and screwed it up very badly. I'm only able to post now because roommate is letting me use his computer while he's at work. What's worse, I lost very thing I had on it....and some of the stuff took months to find. So, all I ask is that you keep all the links up as often as possible. I'll let you all know when or if it can be fixed....as it stands now, it's not looking too good.

PS: If any mods/admins consider this spam, please let me know where to post this news and lock this topic, I won't complain.

Well If you didn't restore your comp I could help you restore your computer and remove the virus.

1) reboot comp
2) click start then run type shutdown -a click ok
3) right click my comp then properties
4) click system restore
5) turn off system restore
6) reboot safe mode
7) press f8 when booting up to go into safe mode.
8) go back perform step 2
8) scan computer using an anti virus delete virus remembering the virus name.
9) search the net by virus's name and see about a removal tool if there is one, download and run it.
10) if no removal tool go ahead rerun antivirus again for any remaining part's of virus. may even want to use one or two on the net.

then once you are in a normal boot up don't forget to turn system restore back on my clicking my comp->properties->system restore and check the box back on.

another method:
1. make sure your neighbour has a virus scanner with a recent virus signature database running
2. uninstall your hard disk drives
3. install your hard disk drives into your neightbour s computer
4. while booting check the bios settings to make sure the operating system from his disk will be used instead of your ones
5. make backups
6. uninstall disks and put them back into your computer
7. boot with a bootdisk and (repartition and) format your disks
8. install os and the usual stuff
9. get back your backups via network shares or by taking your disks to him again

Reinstall windows.

step 1: start computer, and then immediatly press the del button on your keyboard to get into your BIOS.
step 2: change the boot order to boot from CD/DvD rom before HD, and try not to change anything else
step 3: put windows disc (the one you SHOULD have from your LEGAL purchase of Windows) into the disc drive
step 4: start computer
step 5: follow instructions from disc boot for a complete reinstall of windows
step 6: restart computer, and go back into BIOS
step 7: change the boot order priority back to where it was (make it load off of HD instead from CD/DvD)

ALSO, after you do that, DO THESE:
install AVG anti-virus
install Spybot: Search & Destroy
install Adaware: 2008
(and then update/run them to search your computer. run them separately as they take a LOT of CPU/memory)
all are freeware, and WILL keep your computer free from trojan hijacks, viruses, and other spyware.

Lastly: Find new porn sites, preferably ones that don't ask you to install viruses to acess content :P

Why would you go through all of the trouble of doing this when you can just make backups of your files while you are in safe mode? Just back them up in safe mode and do a system recovery of your system. most manufactured computers you dont even need the os disks nowadays cause they keep them on their own drive that nothing can access. all you have to do to start your recovry is hit F11.

With my method if you catch the virus with your up to date virus scanners then you wont even need to reinstall windows jsut do a normal boot up see if it works then turn back on system restore.

System restore fixes the registry stuff, but it won't get rid of the actual virus. Keep that in mind.

That's why i said to run the virus scanners to find it and use a removal tool. The turning off system restore is so when the virus makes windows have a fatal error it doesn't restart the computer.

Even if you have a virus you can still back up your files by yourself without using another computer to install your drives onto. (who would let you and what if he doesnt know how to do all that tech stuff.)

Trust me this happened to me last week and its what i did. to remove the virus. It was a a nifty little trojan that gave me a 30 sec countdown before it shut down my comp.

I couldn't access the net, because the virus shutdown/fried my wireless antenna and my roommate tried many different ways to get it back up, but nothing worked, everything from removing and reinstalling it, to a complete system reset to its factory conditions and nothing worked, but until I get a hardline, my computer can't get online. The bright side to it all is that the virus is gone and I got my computer back...

Find the Macro... if whatever you do is fruitless then the mother is still alive... I cannot help you though since I have to see it for myself. Root anything different in your settings or registry... then try to allocate her location... you can use a bait to make her eat and reveal her home...

I once deal with a nasty mother who locked herself inside my registry... she denied all registry editing (means no install or uninstall or update), disabled my antiviral and any search function. I found her after searching through DOS (lucky I keep 'em)... yes it is manual and quite an eyesore. Destroyed her nest (a folder and an exe)... captured her in a disk (I would love her MUCH much later...)... and formatted my windows due to massive lock on registry... lose my items but I won the war...

Just make sure that you could find when and where you got the infection to avoid repeated blunder. If it is within your backed up program (CD's/DVD's) you may isolate it for your purpose truly or... simply glued that disc on your ceilings (makes a good starry rainbow sky at night with lights off)...

As for autorun... it is best to disabled it for removable flash disks ports... since most infections come from them.

What happens to her? Well... imagine what you'd like... but she is mine now...

removing viruses is quite easy, but it is better to keep it from coming in in the first place ^^ weeee!!!

just remember to install an anti virus software and if possible a firewall...
remeber to always update both the anti virus and the firewall

scanning your drive and creating back-ups from another working pc is a great idea... just be careful you might infect the one you are using to scan ^^

Ooo... yes yes... a little bit of this and a little bit of that...

Why not? A virus that dares to keep me busy for days should be useful enough for me. And since the virus is a mother... what's keeping me from taking her for myself?

Please use your imagination as you see fit... xibo-neechan...
