Guideicon Converting DVD to MPEG (MPG) files

Required Programs

You need to download 2 programs:
I don't want to give a direct link to the .exe, but if you can't find them, send me a PM

[Only registered users can see links. ]
(When you install it, the instructions will be in German. But it's not hard. And the program itself will be in English so don't worry.
1st screen - you only have one button so click it
2nd screen - click 'Entpacken' to install to the default directory.
If you want to change directory, click 'Durchsuchen'
'Abbrechen' is to cancel)

For this example, I will be ripping a scene from Jay's The One DVD

Preparation
1.
Create a folder you can remember, since that's where all the files during this process will go.
I just created a folder called DVD Rip on my desktop

2.
Make sure the DVD is in your DVD-ROM drive ;)
(yes you need a DVD-ROM drive, a regular CD-ROM drive will not read the DVD)

Using SmartRipper to rip the DVD
1.
Go find where you extracted the SmartRipper program.
It should be in a folder called SmartRipper 2.41.
Click (double click, whatever) SmartRipper.exe

3.
If you get any errors (no ASPI-Adapter available) just ignore and click OK
The program will now take a few seconds to read the DVD and find the VOB files.
You should come to a screen that looks like this

4.
There are many options you can make, but I'm gonna make it simple
The only thing you should change is under Chapters, pick which
'scene' you want to extract. You can do all of them or just 1 or 2, it's your call.
I'm gonna do just chapter 4 (which is the scene for Dou Niu).

Under 'Target' select the folder I told you to make at the beginning (DVD Rip).
Keep the filename the way it is.

5.
Click 'Start' and wait for it to do it's thing

6.
Go look in the DVD Rip folder.
You should see a bunch of files that start with vts.

The only one you need is the one ending in .vob, you can delete all the other ones.
(We could have told the program not to make all those extra files, it's under 'Settings' on the screen
before the program rips the DVD. Figure it out yourself when you have time)

Using TMPGEnc to convert the .vob file to MPG
1.
Open up TMPGEnc, and drag the .vob file into the big grey area in the middle
like this -> Example
Similarly, you could have clicked browse where it says 'Video Source' and selected the .vob file there.

2.
Click the button that says 'Load' on the bottom right

3.
Select VideoCD (NTSC).mcf

(after you get better at this, you can pick which ever one you want
they are just resolution size, frame rates, etc. for the MPG file to be created)

4.
Under 'Output file name'
Name it whatever you want, and place it wherever, this will be the MPG file created.

5.
Click the 'Start' button at the top and you're done!
Just wait for the file to be created (can take up to 10-15 minutes depending on the clip length)
