Guideicond Tsukihime

Synopsis: Tsukihime is an ongoing manga series based on the visual novel game by Type-Moon. The manga is done by Sasaki Shonen. There are currently 6 volumes released. The manga is categorized as drama, horror, mystery, romance and supernatural. This review is for volumes 1-5.

Summary: The series follows Shiki Tohno who has suffered an life threatening injury which causes him to see lines (death lines). These lines, when traced by a sharp object will cause a clean cut on a human being and cause any objects to be destroyed. Soon after discovering this ability, Shiki meets with a mysterious woman who gives him glasses which causes him to not see the lines anymore as it was the cause of his mental disorder. After several years, Shiki returns back home to the Tohno residence where he was banished and has now united with his sister Akiha (who is now the head of the Tohno residence). Akiha is responsible for her brother's well being and life seems to be normal for Shiki until the day he meets with Arcueid which causes him to lose control over his mind, thus leading from one strange event to another.

Review: Tsukihime is a fine example of how horror mangas should be done. With all the vampire theme mangas available, Tsukihime goes a step ahead of them by offering a unique story that doesn't feel rushed and is very interesting to follow. Tsukihime does a fine job incorporating elements from other mangas of this genre and balances it out in a way that makes it work for this manga, whereas it fails for other mangas of the same genre. Character development is done effectively well. Each character is given ample time for readers to understand who they are and where they are coming from. Although, there are few characters who are not explained thoroughly until the latter part of the series, it is not to the point where it is intolerable for the reader. The art is clean for the most part, though there are a few scenes that could have been done better (refers to volume 1). The fights in particular are done very well and with great emphasis on action. One of the best horror/action/mystery mangas you will ever read.

My Final Score: 4.5 out of 5 Stars

Availability: Published by: Dr Master Books (5 volumes released)

I like to say yes. The artwork's good, the story's good(which I'm glad) and that's it. Nothing more to say except I love Tsukkihime.

However, one question remains.
Spoiler!

I read the tsukihime manga, but who's sacchin? I don't think I know him...

And it looks like the manga is all set on the arcueid route, with some differences in the story.

Sacchin is the official nickname of Yumizuka Satsuki; the pigtailed brunette classmate who in the 'Crescent Moon' scenario of the game
Spoiler!
In fact the manga has a difference with her in relation to the 'Full Moon' (Arcueid/Ciel) scenario: in the game She died at the hotel as she and her parents celebrated her birthday, eaten by Nero's animals, but she has evaded that by suffering a cold.
Does this mean she will suffer the same fate as in the 'Crescent Moon' scenario, or will it lead elsewhere? Perhaps they mean to include the Amusement Park story from the Tsukihime Plus Disc. Or perhaps to further complicate the story have Arcueid slay her in front of Shiki before he realizes she isn't her normal self anymore.
Good to see more Tsukihime anyway, and definitely better than the stale anime version.

Oh, it's satsuki....I see, it did sound familiar but
Spoiler!

Because I remember shiki doing her in....

Also, the fight scene between Akiha and Ciel and the other one with Roa, Akiha, Ciel and Shiki weren't in the game but I'm damned glad they put it in the manga, it made me fall in love with Tsukihime all over again....

I only read part of it a while ago so I must have missed a few chapters. I'll go check if how much I missed in a little bit. But you're right: the missing interactions add a great deal to the manga that the game glossed over.

The reason why I hate Tsukihime anime is because the battle between Nero and Shiki is so short. But in the manga their battle is really cool.

^ that fight is the only part that was done well in the anime. There are more plot holes and unexplained things in the anime (which are explained in the VN/mango) than you can shake a stick at. If you didn't read the VN or read the mango, you'd go WTF IS GOIN' ON HERE!? If you read the VN/mango, you go "OMG THIS IS HORRIBLE, HOW DARE THEY BUTCHER THE STORY LIKE THAT!"

there is a reason behind "there is no tsukihime anime." It was so horrible, compared to everything else with the type-moon name on it, that most people/fans just try to forget about it.

-but I digress, this is a review of the mango! the mango is delicious.

btw, Stifler Leonheart is the mofo that is scanning the thing. his site is: [Only registered users can see links. ]
caution: it is also his personal blog, so you have to sort through crap to find the releases :P

Sadly, but true. The anime version is mostly for those who haven't read the VN or manga. If there was an award "The Worse Anime-Version 2003", Tsukihime would win it no problem. I wish there was an anime version of the manga. That would made me so happy...

I think we'd all be happy is there was a remake of the anime. Something with at least 24 eps, I think. It would be really nice to see the Nero/Shiki fight once again. Or maybe they could use a storyline from the Far Side Of The Moon (the stories that don't include the main heroines of the tsukihime game). I personally vouch for Kohaku's route. It made me go "wtfbbq this is so great!!".
