Synopsis: Azumanga Daioh (Shortened as Azumanga) is an manga series by Kiyohiko Azuma. The series is complete with 4 volumes released as well as all in one omnibus edition. The series is categorized as school life, comedy and slice of life.
Summary: Azumanga focuses on the lives of 6 high school students and their teachers. Majority of the manga is dedicated to high school life in general, but at times it focuses on life in general. The 6 main characters are doing whatever it takes to get through high school as well as dealing with wacky teachers and perverted ones as well. Along the way they will take trips, visit each other's house, play pranks on each other, fight with cats and make memories that they will take with them forever.
Review: Azumanga is for the most part a school life manga as most of the events occurring happens at school. Each character is unique and is quite easy to tell apart the characters. The manga itself is written in a 4 panel comic strip, though there are few times when it doesn't follow this rule. A lot of the humor actually works, though a few are hard to understand without knowing the Japanese culture. Also, there is a running gag in the manga about a cat who keeps biting Sakaki (who is infatuated with animals). For the most part, the scenes are funny, but because it is overused, the humor is dry at times. The art is clean for the most part and some scenes are repeated several times (some might find this annoying). In all, the series is funny and very easy to read (except for a few things which are hard to come by for those with no knowledge of Japanese culture).
