Re: japanse woman kills virtual husband and jailed for it
This just an example of the media/jounalists sensationalizing a story to get attention. I doubt there would be much attention if the headline/by line was "Computer user arrested/charged with illegal computer use"
There's a huge difference between being arrested/charged and being convicted/jailed. What could the possible bail be for an offence where the maximum fine is $5,000? She's not still sitting in jail waiting for the trial. It's doubtful she even sat in a real jail for more that a few hours if at all. If convicted, it's hugely unlikely this woman will get anything more than a fine/probation. But, OH NO, she could be guilty of "CYBER MURDER"! Bah, like the world doesn't have more important, far more substantive issues to be aware of. Many programmers have done far worse by accident; nothing like forgetting/messing up the where clause on a delete statement.
Yes, a lot of people have been done what she has done and not have been arrested/charge, that doesn't mean that everyone gets away with it. It's just that while you may have done something to someone and that someone didn't care enough to report you. In this case, the victim did care enough to report this woman.

God is in the details
