Guideicond Light Novels & Manga Question

As a writer, philosopher, and scholar--I wonder how some types of great literature and such make into the markets. Besides the point of American fiction, I wonder if writing Light Novels are acceptable into the US market--much like short stories or such. To be more frank and simple: Do popular foreign titles and styles of writing get into the publishing market?

For any of you that been thinking of doing a Light Novel or original story, what is your input? Plus, how do light novels get published and is it any different from manga? (I know they are two different things.)

Post Re: Light Novels & Manga Question

I can't say how it is like in other countries or how it is done in terms of manga, but to get a novel published you can either try to go through a literary agent or contact small publishing companies yourself. Bear in mind larger publishing companies only accept manuscripts from agent represented authors. I was researching it recently as I have a novel I'm editing now and was curious how I should go about it, if I decide to take the plunge from amateur to professional.
Be aware that proper publishers print the book without any money from you, they cover the costs of printing and advertising and send you the royalties from the sales. Some shady companies have you pay half the publishing fees because they don't intend to make money of the book, but rather off you. These are known as 'Vanity' publishers. There is no chance books published by Vanity publishers will ever be popular or well read. They don't publish enough or advertise them well. It is a scam that panders to the author's pride.
As for the form of the manuscript you send; it has to be double spaced, and in an ordinary page size (unless it is a children's book or something unusual). Avoid putting your name on every page, only once, on the cover page is it acceptable. To all those with literary aspirations, good luck.
