[Only registered users can see links. ], the British hacker who broke into military computers looking for evidence of UFOs in the "biggest military hack of all time," did so using his home computer and a 56k modem.
Using his own computer at home in London, McKinnon hacked into 97 computers belonging to and used by the U.S. government between February 2001 and March 2002.
McKinnon is accused of causing the entire U.S. Army's Military District of Washington network of more than 2,000 computers to be shut down for 24 hours.
Using a limited 56-kbps dialup modem and the hacking name "Solo" he found many U.S. security systems used an insecure Microsoft Windows program with no password protection.
He then bought off-the-shelf software and scanned military networks, saying he found expert testimonies from senior figures reporting that technology obtained from extra-terrestrials did exist.
At the time of his indictment, Paul McNulty, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, said: "Mr. McKinnon is charged with the biggest military computer hack of all time."
He's currently awaiting extradition to the United States where, if convicted, he'll face up to 70 years in jail and up to $1.75 million in fines.
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, if you want to test a man's character give him power." - Abraham Lincoln "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black." - Henry Ford
like they will jail him for his skills, they might even hire him to join the military hack team XD

i think the us military is just faking his guilt because he is able to hack to their system.
their image as country of the best for techno dev is being ruined by a hacker using 56k speed...
if he just hack to find info about UFO, there isn't possible to cause 2000 PC to shutdown for 24 hours... x-cept he done something to their server....

im surprised at how far a man would go to search for 'things out of this world' and im also impressed that he is doing it with a 56k modem. however i dont think that he is going to be jailed.. if this incident is true, he would actually be hired to work for the military
This is an ol' story though, he's through every instance in the british courts to not deliver him to america and failed. Now only the European Court for Human Rights separates him from the US Courts.

i think the government's tech division should be punished as well. If this was someone else of similar skills but better tech, the consequences could be worse. The guy should be commended for pointing out the weakness in their tech security.
Well....again....security...lol and with such equiment he must have some skills lol it was a good comment above that he should be hired to be part of a hacking team with better equiment who know what he can do lol
