Default cosplay~

so recently an interesting topic came up, in regards to cosplaying a char from anime series, the issue is in regards to whether or not what ethnic race an individual is from, can the costume be accurately portrayed? personally i dont think anything is wrong as long as the costume can easily be understood and the individual can pull off that particular character's personality.

thoughts and opinions? ( i like noodles too~)

Not very PC to say but, no you'll look ridiculous. People of asian descent get a free pass, but other then that cosplaying as a character of a radically different ethnicity is like a guy cosplaying as Sailor Moon; Even if the guy is good looking, it looks wrong.

On a related note you also shouldn't cosplay as a character with a totally different body type. IE if you're really tall don't go as a short char, Fat don't go as a skinny char, skinny don't go as a buff char (unless you incorporate muscles into your costume), and visa versa.

If I see one more 250+ pound seacow dressed as a Naruto/Bleach/Evangelion/etc character I'll go straight.

I lurk because I hate you.

I never cosplayed or went to a convention, but I agree with dragon, cosplay is better in Japan...
in other countries it's not the same anymore...

and well, if you're a real big fan you'd cosplay without giving a care what others think, but if you've doubts you can either quit before it's too late or pick a better character to cosplay...

never cosplayed, but seen a lot of pictures of cosplay and i gotta say, you can never look as cool as the costume does in the anime, thus exactly why it should be left in the anime rather then trying to replicate the look and make the anime look bad

well, the cosplayers may be good, but what about the crowd?
I think the only place where cosplayers would get so much attention is japan...

then again I never went to a convention, so I don't know if it's true xD
