So how many of you out there play an instrument?

Just like the topic says. What do you play, why, genre of music so on and so forth

I play bass guitar myself, mainly focusing on alternative and Indy songs. The guitar I inherited off one of my sisters friends, when she started to play drums. I have no idea what the bass actually is though. I'm pretty sure it's a Gibson EB-0 knock-off, seeing that it has roughly the same shape, though the thumb rest, tone and volume dials are all in a different place. The pick guard is a different shape too.

I started playing when my sisters band lost their bass player. I didn't actually play for them, he just left the guitar and amp and then one day while I was bored I picked it up and had a go. the rest is history. So how about the rest of you out there?

I've started to play guitar, but it's pretty hard to practise when I don't own guitar...
But I'm going to buy one, at least in next month. :3
I love playing guitar, and music is more than a life to me.^^
I would also love to know how to play piano and violin,
but they're pretty impossible to me.
Maybe when I'm older and richer.

i like playing the guitar, but i suck at it, i've only been studying for...ehh, year and a half, so i hope with practice (if i have time) i'll be able to rock!!! jaja
i do own a guitar, a concert one, it was my moms...

I played the piano for several years because I was young and my parents told me so. I was ok with it but didnt like practising. Eventually I got thrown out of musical school and started playing...the clarinet ! I dont know why ...I liked the sound of it
I played for 4 years and stoped this year because I must study >_<
I recently tried to learn the guitar. God forbids I learn the guitar ...Im too bad hehe paople tell me to stop when they hear me

I play the piano but I'm too lazy to practice seriously. I haven't advanced at all in about six years.

Yeah, the piaono is a difficult one to learn. The good thing about it though is that it makes learning other instruments easier, mainly because you get a good ear for notes. Also a pianists wrists and fingers are something I'm jealous of. If I had them I'd be killing the world on bass right now.

It seems that all of you are good of at least 1 instrument. I'm the worst, only know how to play a number of songs by guitar and piano, dont understand anything about the melodies though. Just remember when and where I must hit the keyboard to make those melodies.

Aside from a few here, everyone else seems to only be able to play piano/guitar, or both. >_< There has to be more people out there that play more alternative instruments, right?

For me, I play.. Wind instruments. My favorites being the flute[alto], ocarina[12 hole tenor], and the harmonica[chromatic of course].

What kinds of music do I play? I mostly play folk songs, ballads, and jazz. It's kinda hard to rock out with wind instruments. ^_^

Why I started? Tried out a harmonica, loved it, got a better one. Ocarina, saw it, bought one. Flute is mostly from band class. Jerks won't let me play harmonica or ocarina so I had to learn the flute.

by writing things into dedicated memory i can cause my computer to make music from me. i guess that counts as "keyboard"... though i can play piano, too.

I have played trumpet, trombone, and baritone with a fairly high degree of skill (1st or 2nd chair for each), and dabbled in sax. However, after playing brass for so long a woodwind was too difficult.

I taught myself how to play the piano a few years back, but I don't have the neccessary dexerity in my non-dominant hand to play with any skill.

After many years' struggle with excelling in piano, I found a wonderful teacher and after only 2 years with her, I went from Grade 5 to Grade 8 Level and passed the Grade 8 Exam~

I also play the flute, but somehow, I never really get a beautiful and smooth sound from it...hmm... Maybe my tongue movements need some work. (I stopped going further after the Grade 5 certificate... so maybe I will go higher in the future^^)

Genre? I mainly stick with Classical music(Mozart, Debussy, Chopin, Beethoven...etc), but recently in piano, I've tried some 70's to 80's love songs, and also more contemporary songs like "My Heart Will Go On". I'm starting to really love these eras of music^^

Perhaps in the future, I could try getting Diploma and teach piano in my spare time when I'm retired~~~^^

... theres a pattern -_- but im currently playing guitar i hope i dont quit that one. wasted alot of money :P. Oh and if i can ever find an Ocarina then ill try that.

woah, am I the only one who mainly focuses on strings?
I play the violin and I'm working on my grade 5 certificate. (cries, all my friends are grade 6)
I played the piano but then I quit cause I never really found a good teacher. I still play it for fun though.
I also tried the flute but I quit cause I never really wanted to start it anyway.
